This Week's Mystery

The Case of the Missing Chocolates

It was a sunny afternoon at Detective Junior HQ, but a dark cloud hung over young Timmy. His special box of birthday chocolates, a gift from his Grandma, had vanished! The box, wrapped in shiny blue paper with a silver ribbon, was last seen on the kitchen counter an hour ago.

There were three suspects in the house:

  • Lily, Timmy's older sister, was in her room supposedly "studying for a big test." She said she hadn't left her room all afternoon but was humming a suspiciously cheerful tune. A faint smudge of what looked like chocolate was on her chin, which she claimed was "just a freckle."
  • Max the Dog, a known food enthusiast, was found sleeping peacefully in his bed. However, a small piece of shiny blue paper was peeking out from under his paw. Max doesn't usually like sweets, but these chocolates were extra special.
  • Mr. Grumbles, the grumpy next-door neighbor, had been seen near the kitchen window earlier, complaining about Timmy's noisy toys. He denied seeing any chocolates but was seen quickly wiping his mouth with a handkerchief.

Timmy found a tiny crumb of chocolate near Max's bed, but also a faint, sweet smell near the open kitchen window leading to Mr. Grumbles' yard. Lily's room had a history textbook open on her desk, but it was upside down!

Who took Timmy's chocolates? And what clues helped you decide?
